helping hand

Amber, that East Coaster fakin’ it out West took time away from her working out her own wedding and busy schedule and decided to lend eRock and I a hand, whatwith crunch time fast approaching.

Thanks Ambercules, we’ll take it into consideration.

1(one) Vote

One of the side stories on Boston.com today:

 August 8, 2008
SNEEDVILLE, Tenn.-All it takes is one vote to win. Just ask a Tennessee woman who was elected constable by voting for herself.

Angela Tuttle, 32, said her father encouraged her to run as a write-in candidate because no one else was vying for one of the positions in Hancock County, which is in northeastern Tennessee.

Tuttle said her husband initially didn’t even realize she was running.

“I finally told him about a month before the election,” she told The Associated Press on Friday. Her husband didn’t think she would win, but now he “just grins at her,” she said.

Hancock County election officials said 131 voters of the 674 registered in the 3rd District voted Thursday. Tuttle’s vote was the only one cast in the constable race. She will be sworn in Dec. 1.

The certified nursing assistant and mother of a 10-year-old son will help serve warrants and patrol neighborhoods in her district. She said her father, a longtime constable who won his own re-election in another district, will “show her the ropes.”

Uh.  1 vote?  What about the husband who knew she was running for the position a month earlier?  Way to show marital support dude.  I am not takin notes* from this guy.

*note to eRock.  If you ever run for public office, you’ve got my vote.

Registered

With the wedding on the horizon, Erica and I made sure that our registrys were up to date and ready to rock and roll.  They have all the generic wedding items (smoker, meat slicer, belgian waffle maker) and those odd ball items (silverware, plates, etc) but I thanks to Amber, I think I found the ultimate gift.

Ladies and Gents, I present to you……

Wake ‘n Bacon

Why doesn’t Amazon.com or Bed, Bath and Beyond have this!!  And I thought waking up to Nelson and Digital Underground was as good as it gets…

en francais s’il vous plait

In preparation for our honeymoon (we’re going to Paris) it was decided that we should brush up on our French.  I am pretty sure that they won’t grade me on my use of accents so I think that we will be ok, but a little refresher is a good idea.  We were lucky enough to be set up with a foreign language program withouth shelling out a ton of money (cost of a beer) and launched right into the lessons.  They say a phrase in French and then you read it and pick the photo that is the accurate description.  Easy enough.  As we went though I realized that a lot of the photos are kind of old and well…bad.  I decided to jump ahead a few lessons but cut it short when I saw the photo above.  I know that is says the man throws the boy, but….I think it is a little awkward.  I’ll let YOU be the judge.

one more thing…

Ok. So, those of you that use Gmail know that it scans your emails for relatable text and then puts little adds around the border. It is no big deal and sometimes helpful though usually off the mark. Well after receiving the email from Roo with the link for his dino pinata video, I noticed a link for this site

I had to go through the site twice to tell if it was a joke or not, but it appears that it isn’t and I simply had to share it. One of the commenters says that after reading the site they opted for a clown instead of the pinata. As far as I can tell, that’s more terrifying (at least to me) than a few broken bones and discussion with your kid. Do kids sometimes have a poor understanding of situations? Sure. It took at least two attempts to realize that Moe probably had his celery stalks cut 99% though before striking Curly on the skull but we worked it out and a little lump on the noggin later (sorry Dad), I had a better understanding of the situation. So don’t choose clowns over pinata’s, just teach your kids that they should only bash on things that they are 99% sure have candy in them.
